Makayla started dancing at the age of 2 years old and grew up performing and competing locally with Dance Connection, Amy's Academy of Dance Arts, and the Academy of Dance and Fine Arts. She has been trained in ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, contemporary, modern, African, hip-hop, clogging, and more! After graduating from West Brunswick high school where she was captain of the school’s dance team, she attended Appalachian State University where she obtained a bachelor of the arts degree in Dance Studies. Throughout her time at ASU she served as showcase coordinator, vice president and president of the school’s largest student ran showcase dance clubs. She also held the role of choreographer and performer in several pieces each year. Upon graduating, she moved back to her hometown to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a mom and being a dance instructor. Her other hobbies include playing video games, being a cat mom, cooking, and going on adventures with her fiancé Matthew and baby boy Lux. Makayla is eager and excited to spread her knowledge and deep love of dance with the students of Brunswick School of Dance.
